It's always weird when they accidentally tell the truth.
I honestly don't think he's trying to destroy the country, though. I think he and the rest of them just don't even give a shit about the country at all and are putting in place whatever they need to keep themselves rich and in power. If it hurts the rest of us and deepens the power divide between the haves and the have nots, well that's just gravy for them.
