Now we know why he didn't beat him. Particularly after Bevin easily won the Gubernatorial race when polls had him down 11 points on Election eve. (Bevin was then ousted by a combination of a fixed race, four years of the media bashing him like they did for Trump and the worst campaign ever run by a candidate.)
In 2020 the race didn't have to be fixed for McConnell. Republicans didn't even run a primary candidate against him then the Leftist challenger was a retread that the Left KNEW was going to lose. They knew this because she lost by a lot in a congressional bid in 2018 in a district that contained Lexington. In Kentucky, if you can't win Lexington and Louisville, you can't win a state-wide race. The Left already knew she couldn't do that and ran her anyway. They recycled bumper stickers and even commercials so they didn't have to waste too much money on a fake campaign. So essentially, McConnell ran unopposed.
McConnell had very little ground support and didn't even campaign in the state. It was pretty clear the Left didn't care about losing to another Leftist.
