story may be bullshit but if it's true then maybe someone local can assist them. I'm far too far and the bridge out may be a death trap in this weather.

Yikes. My building's heat went out for a week a couple of weeks ago, a boiler issue, and it was hovering at 60-62 in here and I was miserable. My daughter was urging me to go out and buy a space heater, but I was too chilled by then to undress and put on street clothes to go out!

I can't even imagine.... And with cold little kids to take care of! I hope they found some help. This crazy cold they'e having down there must be due to global warning....

That’s my question. I suspect there’s something more going on than meets the eye here.

Most of our powerlines are on poles and not buried and we have a fuck ton of trees along the lines. We never see these temps either.

That'll explain some outages but why the power companies can't support this demand when they can support 100+ degree summers.. I don't know. Maybe they go into maintenance during the winter to prepare for summer? Beats me.

I was reading that some powerstations had to shut down because it was to cold for them to operate.

A facility built to burn fuel for energy couldn't stay warm enough. I am guessing the building code standards for insulation are significantly lower then ours in Canada lol.

Yikes. She might be dead.

Folks, don't idle in your garage.

Also, don't wait until hypothermia has set in to find heat. Once you are hypothermic, you can no longer save yourself as your brain starts shutting down.

Houston pede here, Yea I'm lucky to have a gas stove. They say not to use it to heat your home but I honestly have no choice. I figure if I die I die. It'll be cold or fumes and I'd rather die peaceful and warm

Candles (used safely) and enough body heat in a room with windows blocked off can warm a room fairly well.

Fortunately I lived up north for a bit so I have winter clothing. I saw folks at the store yesterday in hoodies and no gloves. I was looking for homeless to give blankets to but it looks like the city stopped dumping homeless out here. Fortunately.
