Good old 17th amendment. We should start a movement to repeal it with the first successful state called constitutional convention. Senators used to be recalled by state legislatures all the time (before the 17A the average senate tenure was less than 3 years because they would be recalled if they voted wrong, or the political winds changed in the state). The progressive movement of the early 20th century was as much of a garbage failure as the modern progressive movement. They were the same assholes who did the 18th Amendment (Prohibition of Alcohol).
