Here's a few South Texas facts:
I was born in the Houston area. That area is a zone 8-9 for weather. Most of the time, the winter temperatures skim the low 30s with a rare upper 20s for short period of times. The houses all have water pipes through the attics. They are not designed for freezing temperatures for a long period of time. You people who live in the northern part of the states have buried pipes. I have a relative who lives near San Antonio and all his pipes have frozen. He also was without power for a day and a half. He had his faucets dripping but the extremely low temperatures froze the attic pipes quickly. There wasn't much of a temperature drop between the northern regions and the southern with this front. I am now living in the Ozarks on a mountain top and we had a -4 for a low last night. My brother who lives in mid-Texas had a -1. We've already had 8" of snow and will get another 10 inches tonight and tomorrow. The hospital close to us had about 16 people admitted for carbon monoxide poisoning. People are running their propane heaters in the house. I expect there will be houses burned down from those using their stoves and overloading ancient fireplaces as they try to keep warm. This front is a killer and people have no clue about safety issues.
Just don't do the grilling inside.
Seems like a silly warning right?
Sadly 2 people in Texas already died because 2 adults didn't know better than to run a car in a closed garage. Killed one adult and 1 of 2 children.
