I lived in Jacksonville Fl . Every house had a fireplace except apartments back then. The worst cold we ever saw was 7 degrees and that was in 1986, and snow in 89. It comes down to not expecting it. Its not a yearly occurrence. It like Miami seeing snow it can happen, but it would be rare
