What the fuck is 'critical'? The breakers trip because they can't meet demand. It's not like they're going to overload and backfeed.
Also, if you're going to use a generator, PLEASE DISCONNECT YOURSELF FROM THE FUCKING GRID. What you don't use in a generator is backfed onto the grid and can kill linemen and destroy transformers.
The danger isn't the grid 'failing' whatever the fuck that even means. A grid can't fail. It goes offline. But the grid won't do that, substations will.
