Footnotes? I can read

He was writing to a church that was tearing itself apart because they were fighting over who should lead them

1 Cor 1

10 I appeal to you, brothers and sisters,[a] in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another in what you say and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly united in mind and thought. 11 My brothers and sisters, some from Chloe’s household have informed me that there are quarrels among you. 12 What I mean is this: One of you says, “I follow Paul”; another, “I follow Apollos”; another, “I follow Cephas[b]”; still another, “I follow Christ.”

You can read, but can you understand? Sounds like you have a Lutheran version of the text. Lutheran being a generic term. Get a Douay Rheims, the one with footnotes. Read the footnotes, then read the chapters, then read the footnotes again.

Now read Cor 1 13 and 14 and 15. The reason he wrote this letter is because the Corinthians had already fallen into schism if not actual heresy.

Cor 1 deals with the dissention already occurring Cor 6 deals with resolving disputes Cor 7 deals with marriage

He was putting in words, what he preached so they would have reference.

I use the NIV when I quote on the internet. It's accurate and easy to understand

I am not a catholic so I have problems with Douay

Again, there is no need for footnotes. The bible was meant to be read by everyone, not to be "interpreted" by some ivory tower egg head
