the most insane part about all this is the nuclear power backup generators that failed and couldn't pump coolant so they had to take the reactor offline....

Nuclear backup? What joke is this? Nuclear power is crap as a backup. It pretty much should be used for the base load. Coal/ natural gas makes perfect backup.
