I want to make one thing clear. I think wind mills aren’t the solution to energy. However our nation’s farmers depend on these to subsidize their income and I’m perfectly fine with them doing so. What I do have issues with is idiots who point fingers and talk out of their ass blaming everyone and everything. What Texas has is a capacity issue. Even if Texas or these other states were 100% fossil fuel, this still would have happened. Demand overran the supply pure and simple and states got caught with their pants down. The windmills freezing was just a compounding problem and not the root of the issue. If anything, we need more of every energy source or this will be a repeating problem. Additionally grids not being connected throughout the US is another issue. There is no reason why power interconnects shouldn’t be a thing during an emergency. I understand the security risks but that can be mitigated.

If windmills are not the problem....Why does Texas have enough eletricity during the summer when it is 100 degrees and everyone is running A/C units? A/C units use way more energy than a furnace.

23% of Texas runs off windmills. If we had that 23% we would be just fine!

Denton Texas has its own power grid and is 100% natural gas. They too have suffered from power outages. SPEZ. Again. Windmills aren’t the problem. Texas lacked the capacity to meet demand plain and simple. Maybe expect up to triple the amount of usage and plan an infrastructure to accommodate it in an event like this?

SPEZ 2. Looks like they brought Santa Rita so they do have wind now. Wasn’t that way when I lived there. Anyhow same rule applies.

If the temp is 35 degrees wouldnt the energy consumption be about the same as if it was 30? The difference being that the windmills arent frozen.

If the temp is 35 does Texas have outages or is it just when the temp drops enough to freeze the windmills?

No, at 35 degrees my heater will run and heat normally. At 30 it runs constantly to try and keep up.
