They simply can’t afford to maintain the infrastructure without cheap “Trojan Horse” Chinese parts.

Not true at all. Public utilities are granted a monopoly, on the stipulation that profits are capped to a certain percentage.

The power companies will simply charge more for electricity if maintenance becomes more expensive. (which is why they don't mind at all being forced to buy renewable energy credits... They just pass the extra cost on to you!)

Hey man, if yoi know differently, enlighten me! To the best of my knowledge, the whole point of a PUD was to regulate public utility revenues.

Why wouldn't the power company be able to argue to the PUD that the cost of power distribution is higher due to not using Chinese parts, and then argue that it needs to be allowed to have more revenue?
