This probably has to do with attacks on Asian stores and that gang rape/murder of the girl in WI more than likely. The attacks against Asians has been ramping up lately.

Tariq is engaging in a "I know what happened to you, but what about us?"/ who gets to be the real victim here? argument. Aka. a logic slide (into the drain, but is seems to work on some people).
