Yep, they claimed NYC would be underwater by 2015 due to rising sea levels from the arctic melting. A claim which can be patently disproven with the most basic of logical reasoning simply by considering the city of Venice. It's been slowly sinking into its mud foundations since before the industrial revolution and yet is still above water.
It's sad that pretty much all of science fiction still buys into and reinforces the lie though. Any future depiction of a coastal city will almost invariably have big sea walls built to keep out the ocean.
