My daughter asked me to stop sending her proof that the coof is fake news. I said ok because I love her and now feel like I've been contributing to her stress levels.

If I was a smidge more callous I would have sent her this...

"No. You're in your mid twenties and have judged me by your ignorance.

Nothing I've shown you was a lie. Nothing.

Yet you choose self imposed ignorance, comfort, over reality.

This country is at war. You are living in a failing society that is being controlled through media, education and chemical manipulation. "

I wish I could send her this but I now know she would just check out mentally in the first few sentences.

I miss you, kiddo.

You have. You've also been raising your own blood pressure for zero benefit.

Family is above all. Don't tear your family apart with political rhetoric. They will NEVER change their viewpoint based on what YOU say. All you will create is division and hurt, and it will be YOUR fault.

My Leftist cousin almost alienated his parents from visiting - not because of their political views, but because they kept initiating political conflict during every visit, sowing discord, and he has 3 kids who shouldn't be in the middle of constant family arguments.

He doesn't start these arguments. He would've gotten along fine with them if they simply avoided politics. And frankly, after they came that close to fragmenting our family, I changed my behavior as well.

I don't talk politics to my Leftist family members. It only makes them feel ganged up on by the rest of us, and I refuse to add to it. I focus on what we have in common. We talk about common interests, movies, dating, whatever - being supportive. I started giving private martial arts lessons to one of them, and we NEVER touch politics, or at least political issues we disagree on.

BEWARE, for the internet crap you read everyday can ruin the most important things in your life. Love is more than Trump vs. Biden or capitalism vs. socialism. You can't replace family, you can't rent someone else's. Don't fuck with it.

Firstly, thanks.

I already do not discuss politics with my children. This discussion was about the covid lies.

And the rest of what you have to say? I agree. But you can't see someone in person, my preferred method of conversing, if they believe sitting in a room with you wearing 2 masks means she's gonna die.

Simple questions like "hey kiddo, did you know that the population of Washington is around 3.2 million and that only 3000 or so people have died from covid?" is not me provoking anything but math.

She's a big girl. She can handle truth. Or at least I thought.

Soon enough she will be vaccinated and feel safe enough to be in the same room with you.

Simple questions like "hey kiddo, did you know that the population of Washington is around 3.2 million and that only 3000 or so people have died from covid?" is not me provoking anything but math.

Yeah that's my mom's reaction when I tell her to stop spending time on arguing politics with our Leftist extended family members. Not actually hearing my message, but saying "it looks so obvious to me that I'm right, why can't they just understand..."

Family is sacred, they're not some random anons to debate on the Internet. If you don't choose being NICE over being RIGHT, you risk ending up all alone in your Tower of Righteousness, arguing with the wall about politics.
