I like his words to a degree, but if you pay for services, and moved somewhere with the expectation of service...I mean, suburbs aren't exactly allowing people to have chickens and rain water barrels and coal burning fire places, etc

City and suburban living is by its very nature not self-sufficient. People who live in the cities and suburbs are dependent on utilities, particularly electricity and water.

Yes, people should have had more emergency food and water supplies and some means of emergency heating and cooking. Living in a city doesn't excuse you from disaster preparedness. (In some ways it's even more important.) But the time for people to stock up and prepare is over.

Calling people lazy when they are suffering - when many of those people are hard working taxpayers who always paid their power, water, and gas bills on time - is just being an asshole. It's not going to help people get through this emergency.

A good mayor would be trying to think of things people can do to help themselves right now and giving that info out, instead of calling names and quitting.

It's all just deflection. Every word this piece of shit said actually applies more to him than anyone else.

If the people were taking said utilities as gibs, that might be a valid argument.

Except they are paying dearly for these essential services. And they are not getting what they paid for.

That is theft.

I'm torn here. He was a a dick, no doubt. Was that hill to die on? No. If he also thinks people should learn to take care of themselves, as in get a job and pay for services on their own, then yes. He would be right. That hill was bad form when there are so many out of power, not just those on gibs.

BINGO!!!

You said it in a nutshell.

Going to work, paying your bills, paying your taxes IS supporting your family by most peoples standards.

He did say create power and so forth which was absurd. Seems he was trying to go for being self reliant and chose this issue and what an issue to choose. He failed gloriously. Sadly that does not help get utilities restored.

Yeah. From my limited understanding of the power grid, the first utility company to build the extensive infrastructure, like power lines and those utility substations, gain a monopoly just because they were the ones to set up the infrastructure. And a lot of times they were subsidized to help build that infrastructure. So its just not financially viable for any competitors. And thats just electric. Not even taking into account 'renewable energy'. It just seems like a giant clusterfuck to me

Apparently some company build their first power station in Texas since 1979 a few months back. The governments were intentionally kneecapping grid expansion.

well I mean he's not lying it is YOUR job to provide for your family and if you can't do that then it's your fault not others or the government.

Then you go move to Alaska and create your own power and clean water. I'm all for supporting yourself and your family but that shit is ridiculous
