I like his words to a degree, but if you pay for services, and moved somewhere with the expectation of service...I mean, suburbs aren't exactly allowing people to have chickens and rain water barrels and coal burning fire places, etc

City and suburban living is by its very nature not self-sufficient. People who live in the cities and suburbs are dependent on utilities, particularly electricity and water.

Yes, people should have had more emergency food and water supplies and some means of emergency heating and cooking. Living in a city doesn't excuse you from disaster preparedness. (In some ways it's even more important.) But the time for people to stock up and prepare is over.

Calling people lazy when they are suffering - when many of those people are hard working taxpayers who always paid their power, water, and gas bills on time - is just being an asshole. It's not going to help people get through this emergency.

A good mayor would be trying to think of things people can do to help themselves right now and giving that info out, instead of calling names and quitting.
