If you want student debt forgiveness you can join the military and use your GI bill money. Then you don't have to be a pathetic mooch expecting the world to take care of you.

Or you can simply not take out a loan of $100,000 when you have some minimum wage job or no income at all or savings

Perhaps educating them about money and the interest on loans before they take them out.

Eliminating federal loans completely would be better.

Schools would have to cut their bullshit amenities and costs would be slashed.

Agree, its a very serious issue when students are saddled with tens of thousands, or more, of student loan debt. They're starting their lives out as debt slaves, often with a useless degree.

We need to remove the Government from student loans completely. No more letting the tax payer underwrite worthless gender studies and basket weaving degrees. No more unlimited tax payer money for Universities. Do that one thing and it'll sort out the system in short order. No private bank in the world is going to loan you a 100K to get a women studies degree, lousy ROI.

And of course the Democrats don’t really want to fix the problem, which is the government guaranteeing these loans. Just hand out a bit of free money so you can promise more to future voters. Keep the system of higher education extremely over-priced so the citizens are too burdened with debt to fight their corrupt government.

Young white kids don't seem to get that welfare is for minorities, women, and the elderly. You can get fucked if you think as a white man you're going to do anything but fund the system for everyone else

We're so far away from "Free market" and "limited government" I'm not sure I even care anymore about any of it. It'll never get better until it gets much worse, and they'll fight tooth and nail to prevent it from getting worse until it gets so bad it might all crumble at once.

That or they'll put "popular" idiots in charge for so long they'll eventually come to the right conclusions that others have had decades ago and its far too late for, cause God forbid they listen to people who tell them their sunshine and rainbows are tried and true garbage.

I actually somewhat agree with the first point AOC made. The enormous amount of confused teenagers who were pressured by the education system and older generation to go and saddle themselves with college debt is massive and it was done under this whole idea of "what you don't want to be flipping burgers or trimming bushes" by a bunch of elitist baby boomers who hate any type of manual work. IDK if student loan forgiveness is the right way of handling it, im much more in favor of just reverting all federally backed student loans to simple interest and telling the banks to take a hair cut. I get that people like to bring out the strawman of the person who got a feminist dance theory doctorate from yale with 300k in debt but lets be real. An enormous amount of these people have marketing degrees, or English, or history, or any number of not particularly valuable degrees because they were told that you have to go to college it's a golden ticket. These people have 10-50K in debt from this endeavor that they will probably eventually pay off but they ultimately did not need to get saddled with it in the first place. The Banks and the universities and the government all are at fault here as well.

As somebody just finished paying off my student loans after graduating in 2005, fuck that. I took out the loans knowing I had to pay them back, and I paid them back.

It took sixteen years, but that’s what it takes.

The only time I’d ever agree to a loan forgiveness program is if it’s in a field where we need more skilled workers, like engineering or medicine, and only once they’ve put time in the field. They did this with teachers and nurses for a while from what I remember.

As a taxpayer though, I’m not paying for somebody’s gender studies or minority studies degree. They’re the ones stupid enough to think they could make being a victim a career, so now that they’ve victimized themselves they can find their own way back out of it.

They weren’t encouraged to go into debt due to “elitism”, but to gain a marketable skill that would make those student debt payments look like pennies. Failure to do that is their fault.

However, I do agree who cares what school you went to. I’ve met people from Harvard dumber than some who’ve gone to community college.

I wonder how soon they’re gonna take hiden out so they can get their radical nonsense through. Or was it their plan all along to not actually do anything?
