I had a Jack Russel. He lived for 15 years, and I got him when I was in middle school. He died last year, and it really was like losing a large part of myself when he was gone. I worry about how I'll react to the death of my parents, but I hope I'll have the strength to handle it when that day comes.
My pet passed away a couple days ago, I had him since I was a kid and started listening to Rush. Man it hurts to lose both the same week.

I'm on like my 4th generation of Dog. Was your pet a parrot or tortoise?
If he had a shih tsu or a lab mix since he was 10 he could easily have it 15-20 years, not uncommon for well taken care of dogs in moderate climates
20yrs isn't uncommon for a small dog or cat.
