That's when they get nasty -- they can't handle rejection.

Domestic violence tends to escalate when you try to leave.

Did you ever see that old Farah Fawcett movie about the abused wife who defended herself from her crazy ex by poisoning him and then hog tying him up and puting him in the fireplace? He eventually sweet talked her into letting him go and she finally had to kill him. But, I mean, BOY! WHAT A MOVIE!
