More layers isnt necessarily better. Smart layering is. Moisture wicking layer, then, wool (if you have it), then an outer layer to block wind and water (melting snow).
Flip your windshield wipers up. Otherwise they freeze to the window and you'll mess them up a number of ways in your hurry to get in the car.
Try and scrape the ice/slush/snow off steps and walkways after the sun (what little you had) has been melting it or softening it up. It will turn to super hard ice at night that is even hard to remove with a hammer and chisel.
