You have to boil tap water if you want to drink it.

Means they don't trust the cleanliness of the water to drink it. You might not have to boil for washing or showering, (CHECK THAT) but for drinking or brushing your teeth, they want you to boil. To kill anything that might be in it. This can often happen when things are not working well. It is a precaution.

My town is under a boil notice, because the power outages affected all three water plants aka they couldn’t filter the water. They finally got them up and running after 24 hours, but we’re still under a boil notice until further notice.
