You mean H1B visa workers or people who came here as students? What student visa is used to get a good job? I've only seen them get teaching or research positions (not highly paid...) at the place of study. A lot of H1Bs in my area get a fixed salary at about 1/2 of the expected salary for a qualified entry level domestic level. To be worth it for the company, the domestic guy needs to be able to be 2x more valuable. At a higher level, maybe 4x or more times more valuable. This encourages getting loads of them so it may give the illusion that they're in a good job more.
Not to mention, the managers can keep H1Bs on a leash with the system. They're efficiently replaceable, and if anything goes wrong, they will have to rapidly leave the country and lose quite a lot to suddenly go back. No overtime compensation. Altogether, they're going to get a desperate employee at a fraction of the cost. Convenient system.
Sooo back to the point, I don't think H1Bs are particularly good jobs, often, but yeah better than starbucks. Rather, the H1B system cost Americans good jobs.
Foreign visa students never seem to work at Starbucks. They get the best jobs.

The Visa jobs used to be good. Think tech/business/stem.
Decades of exactly what you describe has ruined that. Was changing over last 2/3 years but not anymore with Biden and corona.
