Same here. In my teens, I thought "there is some great singer called Bob Dillon, acc. to the radio DJs, I hope I hear his music sometime."
THen there was another guy called Bob Dylan who looked like a scruffy boho on his record covers and couldn't sing play or compose IMO, who I didn't connect to the raved-about Dillon fella.
