Instead of grits on the ice, go and get a bag of salt used for water softeners at home depot. It works. Used it when the place was sold out of the rock salt.

You’re assuming people can drive on snow and ice covered road in cities that have no snow plows...

Northerners would say sure you can, you just use chains.

Think of all the houstonians with tire chains

Hmmm...I’d say maybe 5 people in Houston have tire chains.

Imagine them explaining that every summer

Biggest thing is they don't have experience driving in those conditions. They have the trucks, even a little Jeep Patriot will drive through it, but not if you haven't driven in those conditions before.

4x4s aren’t doing shit in the TX Hill Country. Can’t get up the icy hills. Need chains, which of course, why would anyone living in south central TX need?!

There’s now a supply chain issue cuz trucks can’t get here either.

If you have Epsom salts, those work too. I guess sugar would too, but it might get sticky.

Kitty litter or ashes can also work

Oh, good idea. I would have never thought of ashes. I heard of kitty litter before but I have no cats.
