Less than one in twenty Americans living today have any ancestors that owned slaves. Of course this makes sense when we consider how small the country was at the time before the great migration from Europe ( I believe the population was under 35 million, and of that very few owned slaves ). So yes, only 5% of the population living in the US today has a single relative that owned a slave. People watch too much tv, they assume whites were all wealthy plantation owners sipping sweet tea on the porch while slaves worked the fields. No , believe it or not , we weren't all raised on Tara with Scarlett O'Hara. More like Little House on the Prairie if you were lucky, and in the case of my ancestors more like The Grapes of Wrath. Yes shocking, I know.
What's even crazier is that probably more black Americans have slave owning ancestors than white Americans, considering that Africa practiced widespread slavery long before they ever met any Europeans.
Around 1820 there were several thousand BLACK slave owners. Now 200 years later they would have several million descendents. Now wouldn't that be something if several million black people were told that because you had a slave owner ancestor you actually will have to PAY reparations.
What is more alarming to me and I always knew this to a certain extent but blacks were not the only enslaved race and that was not the only times slaves existed but I guess it plays into their BLM narrative.
The Africans at the time were actually selling the slaves they had to the Europeans. White Europeans would not go into deep-Africa on their own because of wild animals and diseases..
And the US was nowhere near being a top-offender. Estimated 450,000 were eventually brought to the US, mostly from Caribbean nations.
An estimated 5.8 million slaves had been imported/taken from Africa to Brazil alone.
The vast majority even of southerners didn't own slaves. The demographics are evidence of that and it was wealthy folks that owned them, but somehow all the poor whites in the south got the blame too for slavery and now all white Americans are getting blamed even those from the North whose ancestors fought in the civil war.
These people don't care whether your ancestors owned slaves or not. As long as they were white or European descent, they benefitted from "systemic racism" and must be held accountable for their sins of omission.
We should genetically trace each individual American to determine how many of their ancestors owned slaves and charge reparations fee to individuals based on some % of ancestral slave ownership.
I bet congress and DC establishment owes the most slave reparations... Hell, I bet some of them still own slaves (looking at you podesta).
The USA went to war, for the very first time as a country, against muslims who were enslaving Americans, and Europeans.
If Congress does not have a hearing about banning islam and getting trillions from them in reparations, then they are huge failures.
