Single mothers, which make up nearly half of mothers at this point, to feel insecure seeing happy mother-father relationships. Many happily married mothers don't feel threatened by not seeing a father on the cover because it's targeted at mothers anyways.

I think this is more a symptom of the high rate of single-motherhood than something more sinister.
