I moved from CA to TX in 1995. While TX is still great, if I was moving today it would be Tennessee. They have a good combination of conservative values, low taxes, a booming economy, and mountains, rivers, and forests. TN is a little too cold for me, but heck, even Phoenix is too cold for me in the winters.

Tennessee is a different breed of Southern. They're nice to your face, but it takes years to work your way into a community there.

Florida , Ohio, Tennessee
I'm originally from that hell hole, personally I've chosen Florida as I like the beaches and climate, there's no climate like California anywhere else in the country so you'll first need to determine which climates you are ok with and then go from there. There's plenty of based states in the Midwest and South.
I actually like the cold. Gets too hot for me here sometimes. Wisconsin seems gone... What Midwest states do you recommend?
Try South Dakota. very cold and very hot. Has a great American Governor.
