He is toast now. He could have been working in getting emergency help or something, or stuck it out. But takes off to a warm climate and left voters to rot. Trump curse
Being a member of the American ruling class allows him the power to do what he wants. It is not as if he spent his time to become a member of the elite so that he has to do what YOU want him to do, or even do what is right. Just because he has an R by his name doesn't mean he won't do whatever he wants. I wouldn't be surprised if he has a freezer full of $100 cartons of ice cream.
People seem to forget - Cruz is a Senator. He is a member of the legislature and NOT the executive branch. Senators have no impact on the states emergency response, that task is handled by the Governor and his teams.
Cruz, or really any member of the legislative branch, has zero role in handling the TX disaster, so why is everyone attacking him? Because the left sees an opportunity to destroy a conservative voice. Those of you going after him for this are either leftists or unwittingly helping the left.
Are you going to write this damage control on every post that dares to criticize Cruz?
We have not forgotten basic civics. We are not "attacking" or "trying to destroy" anyone. He made a stupid choice, and we are recognizing that it was a stupid choice.
Most of us have less power than he does, and would feel wrong taking off on a holiday during a disaster when we could be helping our neighbors and community.
Even if he feels no such responsibility to his community, part of being a politician is being aware of PR, and this was an outrageously idiotic move on that front.
I'm not on the ground there, so obviously cannot give specific examples of what precisely is needed right now in the various areas, but I do know, from first hand experience, that in natural disasters there are always things that are in need. Even the smallest things can do enormous good, but someone with connections and clout can leverage those, as well as the organizing ability that a politician already has, to help much more, even in an unofficial capacity.
I don't like bringing peoples' families into things, but since you asked presumed that I, and everyone, would take my family out of there, no I wouldn't. I think it would be teaching kids exactly the wrong thing about civic responsibility, patriotism, and how to deal with problems. But I also understand that not everyone would feel that way. None of that has anything to do with what he, as a politician, chose to do.
You can absolutely not get as much done on the phone as you can on the ground; I can guarantee that he would not be on vacation and phoning it in when it comes time to campaign. And like I initially said, even if he didn't feel he needed to be there for the sake of civic responsibility, as a political move this was idiotic. Have you known politicians? Half their job is PR, and this was a major blunder on that front, which he himself acknowledged by immediately returning and releasing a press statement.
And as far as "freezing to death so they can learn about patriotism," nice strawman. Do you really think people are dying en masse, and that that would have been the danger had he stayed? It's not at all a strange viewpoint to think it not an honorable thing to leave when things get difficult. But again, I only care about his actions as a public figure, not what his family does. I was only speaking for myself, because you'd decided to speak for me, and for everyone.
And thank you; it's a badge of honor that such a deeply unpleasant person thinks I'm a fucking moron.

Knock it off.

Yes, yes I am. Because the attacks are unwarranted. Cruz has plenty of failings, this ain't one of em.

He needs to be cold and suffer without electricity like the people he represents!
