This idiot should walk around my house, I have loaded guns stashed everywhere. Depending on the room of the house I'm in, I need to have a weapon within 5 sec ~10 feet because if a home invader comes through a door or window and blocks my path to my "storage" I might as well not have them. Worked with a guy so paranoid, he had guns stashed in the freezer, old cereal boxes, taped underneath counters, etc.
You never are when it comes to your family. We have a briefed "alamo" in our house. I'm the first line of defense, wife gets the kids to the alamo and sets up the last stand (never mess with a mom and her kids).....I'm paranoid, or am I prepared? Both sound the same to me.

Unless you have a remote camera armed with a gun, basically a sentry gun, you're not overdoing it.
