Actually the Allies were way too harsh with Germany regarding war reparations. The drumbeat to war was equally the fault of England, France and their allied as it was Austria-Hungary's and Germany. The behavior of US politicians for most of the war, making money for their industrial contributors, was a gigantic clue that THEN, as now, 90% of Congress should not be suspected of even WANTING to do their best for America.
