I usually jump into these threads as a teacher to protect teachers, but fuck these people make it hard to do so.
I'll level with you - I've wanted kids back in the classroom since day one, March 17th 2020. I thought "fine, 2 weeks to control the spread. Teach online for a few days and come back." That hasn't happened. I am surrounded by teachers who are too big of pussies to come back with vaccines and face shields. It's fucking ridiculous.
Meanwhile I'm out here busting my ass day in and day out to get my students online and teach some semblance of our normal curriculum. I'm blessed to be able to say that I get almost all 28 kids online with me for 3.5 hrs straight every day, but I know it's not the same. I teach, I interact, we discuss, we test...but its not the same. But I'm not gonna stop trying to help these kids, you know? And I do know other teachers working just as hard.
So I guess at the end of the day, just remember that for every 10 or 20 P.O.S. teachers who are phoning it in, there's a teacher out there trying desperately to make it work and wishing we were back in the classroom. We exist.
And this is why our school system is shit. The "good" ones managed to teach "almost all" for 3.5 hours a day.
In HK, all students had 8 hours of online learning from march last year - at the same time teachers here were twiddling their dicks - be honest, how long did it take you to implement online learning? Do you utilize google classroom, zoom with groups, and all of today's tools?
There's a reason Chinese kids are rocking ours in science and math - because our education system is based on developing a "whole" person, and not giving students the skills needed to excel in post secondary and beyond. And what's the outcome? We've created the weakest, most sensitive generation of pussies who are more concerned with pronouns than calculus.
