Here is my understanding: it's not prison but when you contract to live there you agree to their rules. If you don't follow the rules or fight against them they can nullify the contract and kick you out. It really is that simple. And any other facility in those states would apply the same rules. It's easy to talk tough if you don't have to worry about who is going to provide round the clock care to your family member. Reality is more complicated and tough talk doesn't always solve such issues.

Sounds exactly like prison - they'll confine you indefinitely, but at least they'll take care of you, give you warmth, clothing, and 2 or 3 meals daily! But you best not speak up or else you'll be sent to the hole!
