So the central — well, vastly overstated — the central principle of Xi Jinping is that there must be a united, tightly controlled China. And he uses his rationale for the things he does based on that.

When he first said that his goal was "unity," it begged the question on what measures the new regime would consider acceptable to achieve that.

Now we know.

It seems to me like the first time he said it it was immediately followed by "except for those bastards over there," as he pointed to the Trump supporters in the distance.
