They have already ramped up persecution of Christianity during this Wuhan Coronavirus craze, but I suspect they are going to hamstring their economy more than they are expecting in the process.

Economic downturn is the perfect time for them to make that move. You have to make a recovery anyway so dealing with that now could be on the list.
