I put a 1400 lumen light in my kitchen and planted seeds in soda bottles with the tops cut off a week ago, just got some sprouts popping up yesterday.
Indoors so its “recycling” the energy im spending to keep the house heated, so I can grow indoors year round, at least thats the plan.
We have so much unused space in the house, theoretically could put shelves up on all the walls, hang pots from the ceiling, use closet space, etc.
Dont have to go that extreme but maybe we should view not using the space at all as extreme as well, just on the other end of the spectrum.
With a freeze drier you can store produce you grow for 25+ years as well. Honestly freeze driers should be in every American home, its a bigger technological advancement than the home refrigerator.
Freeze dried food fits almost all the requirements for a “currency” as well. Universal demand (everyone eats), holds value well (lasts 25+ years), consumption fights inflation (though inflation of commodities is good for the consumer), lightweight (most of the weight of food is water)
Some issues are uniformity, unlike metals foods can differ in quality/taste/nutritional value. And there are various food groups and different species/varieties of crops/livestock. A quick, universal grading system for nutritional value and taste/texture is out of my wheelhouse but maybe a simple solution can be found
Any kind of gardening can be very satisfyiing. Especially on a grand day.

40!?! Wow that's a lot of chickens. My sister and her husband had 6 and they had more eggs than they could handle.
