I'm in a rural area myself. and I see stacks of firewood at the end of SO many driveways. Same deal. Fuck living close to a city. At this point, I'm looking to move even further away from the nearest one.

Im curious how far out I could get. The biggest limitation is internet access.

Rural WNY and CNY are like that as well, little stands of all kinds of the freshest produce you could ask for all paid for on the honor system.

That's great. I'm sure it gives everyone a good feeling too knowing they can trust their neighbors.

We have one of those three miles from us, open year round with farm fresh eggs and varying produce / fruit based on time of year. They've also got a commercial ice machine that does a lot of business in the summer because we live on the coast, it only costs a couple of bucks to fill a really large cooler. Every bit of it is on the honor system. Lots of folks shrimp and fish around here so you always need lots of cooler ice.

About three months ago, they were robbed, all the money taken along with some other stuff. We were afraid they would close up because of it. Apparently the parents of the kids that did it found out, and made the kids return everything and apologize. It's good to know there are still some good and decent parents left around here.

In my neighborhood, somebody will put a piece of furniture (bookcase, table, office chair) in their front yard by the road with a "free to take" sign on it. People still knock on the front door every time and ask "is it really free? I can just take it? I won't get in trouble?"

Same here. Just stands on the side of the road with baskets of produce and a cash drop box.

Here in my area we have a fire wood stand with a honor system. It’s a little lock box that people put cash into.
