It's the same as the bitcoin spam attack Twitter had a few months back when big names were compromised asking for bitcoin to a link. Gab was under heavy strain for an hour before going down an hour ago. I'm sure they pulled the plug to correct it and prevent people from being scammed. It'll be back up once the issue is fixed.
