My wife and I make >100k together and we KNOW we're what is left of the 'middle class' whatever that is.. because there isn't much space in between us and 'rich' types.. and 'poor types' below.

Anything <50k/yr and you're basically living in poverty. Anything >100k and you're basically comfortable.

Most 'rich types' are really upper middle class. If you liquidated your assets and have 1-10m you're still 'middle class'. 10m can disappear really quick. As McCain said, you're not rich unless you have at least 300m in the bank.

Fair. it takes mega-millions to reach a level of wealth so vast it makes money just by existing. I think I'd be content living off dividends/capital gains from a few million. I'm a man of simple tastes.
