i dunno what that guy meant by his statement without him being more specific, but immigration overall is a problem. It's not just illegal immigration, we also legally allow in so many people that we add a third of the population every 30 years, which is an INSANE amount.
Econ 101 says that this reduces wages, which is what the vast majority of people live on.
I know, coming from an immigrant family and living in high-immigrant NJ that often immigrants are the saving grace from our degraded culture and school system*. But the overall facts are clear, legal immigration needs to be restrained almost as much as illegal immigration
*I even once had a Haitian tell me that he grew up both in Haiti and America, and would move with the school year. I assumed he meant he went to school in America, but he meant the opposite. He said that unless you have a lot of money in America, the schools in Haiti are better, because they're on the French system. He said when he started going to college in America he was baffled at how far behind the students here were.
My wife is from the Philippines. She grew up without electricity or running water. She had an outhouse that she had to check for snakes before taking a shit... dirt poor. She worked hard went to school (that she had to cross a river by foot to get to) and did her best. She fought MMA and got a scholarship to college. In college she worked her ass off and saved money and got an internship. She paid her life savings of $10k USD to get here (that is a fortune in PH) and worked hard during her internship instead of treating it like an American Vacation like the other kids in her group. She ended up getting a full time job and works hard at it and trades crypto/sells jewelry as a side hustle. She is one of the most inspirational people I know.
She came here with Strong family values and integrity. She has a 10 year plan and is the structure I need in my life instead of blowing my cash on motorcycles and weed lol. She is MAGA af, and NOBODY complains more about lazy, spoiled American kids than her. If we had more immigrants like my wife, people would be begging for more immigration. Also, she NEVER uses her "POC" status as a crutch or anything like that and says that these Americans who think they are oppressed have some of the most privileged lives on earth and have no idea what oppression or poverty really looks like. She had to catch her dinner as a kid...
I do not think we need to slow down immigration, I think we need to improve the quality of immigrants. We need to stop being the worlds homeless shelter and instead have a more merit based immigration system where we take only the best from all over the world to help us MAGA.
I think some people in this page forget that we ARE a nation of immigrants and VERY few people can trace their ancestors back to the colonies. tbh, most white Americans are likely refugees from Europe after WW1 and WW2 wiped out Europe. During WW1 I think like half of our military was immigrants.
