Probably just weird because Latin doesn't have a word for quarantine.

Umm, yes it does. Quarantine is Italian, derived from the Latin root, meaning "forty days," which was the standard time period for separation during disease outbreaks in order to reduce risk of infection, dating back to the seventeenth century.

So Latin has a word for 40 and days... This could actually explain the weird Jewish translation because 40 days appears a lot in the bible.
