I used to spend quite a bit of time in Los Angeles and San Diego back in the early 2000's, and loved it. I used to want to move there. Great weather, palm trees, beautiful sandy beaches, iconic locations... I still have fond memories of Santa Monica Pier, and spending evenings at Long Beach watching the sunset on the ocean with the neon lights of the city behind us.
Fifteen years later and you couldn't pay me to live there.
