Yep it’s literally liquid candy. Nothing spikes your blood sugar faster. At least when you suck on a hard candy the sugar dissolves slower over 10 minutes or so. With a soda you get the equivalent amount of sugar with one gulp and WHAM goes your blood sugar!

I switched to diet a decade ago. Not that it's any better if course. Been reducing my intake over the last couple years. It's about habit. Keep an alternative available. Iced tea, water, whatever. They know their marketing. If they make it easily accessible they know they can break you.

Yeah, no. Artificial sweeteners have their own unique issues, and some, like Truvia (made by - wait for it - Coca Cola) have sugar alcohols, which impact the blood stream just like sugar does.

To add quick: overindulgence of diet soda can be just as unhealthy regardless of the lack of sugar. You're still not giving your body water and it's having to constantly filter out the tiny water that's mixed with dozens of flavorings, preservatives, and coloring. I personally don't believe the whole song and dance about things like aspartame being a terrible deadly chemical so personally I'd say having 1 or 2 diet sodas a day is perfectly fine. Same with a regular soda too. The problem is that so many people go way past that though and your body isn't designed to get its water from a heavily diluted source. People need to know that over indulgence of ANYTHING can be harmful, whether is has sugar or not.

Yes. Insulin is for HYPERglycemia, to metabolize elevated blood sugar. HYPOglycemia is low blood sugar level when you should have something with sugar content like orange juice to raise blood sugar to a normal level.

Growing up I got up to a 12 pack a day of diet soda. In college it was 8+ cups of coffee a day. Haven't done anything but water for about 8 to 10 years now. I'll have since diet root beer with whiskey or rum if drinking on a weekend and that's the only time I have anything but water (ok, I guess beer too).

The worst thing with coffee is that when you're daily user, after not so long time coffee doesn't even properly work as a stimulant though. It's just bringing you back to your baseline really. And bringing your body back to order demands WEEKS of not drinking it.
I ditched this shit and pulled through, first by drinking some tea, but I cut on it also quickly. Now I only drink one cup of tea once in a few weeks or even months.
Try herbal teas. There are some really good ones.
I love coffee and tea. I was a "by the pot" guy too, but I've cut back - a press once a day, or a pot if I'm gonna be home, but I use a lot less beans than I used to. For tea, I love Barry's, but it has as much caffeine as coffee, so one cup a day.
Otherwise it's water, or herbal tea. My days are now counted by how much ice I go through. :)
There's this ridiculous bias against herbal teas - mostly because of liberal stereotypes - but if you want a hot drink with no caffeine, there's lots of options there.
I was doing 2+ pots of coffee a day for decades, and chain-smoking cigarettes whenever possible, even while eating.
Now I'm on the "heart healthy" diet, which is the opposite of the "sanity-safe" diet. 2 cups of coffee maximum, crushing withdrawal headache 24-7 for about a year now. I'm not sure how much worse that would be without any caffeine at all, but I'm not going to do any experimenting with that.
I've been on The Patch trying to quit smoking (again) but I always go back to it when I get to the last round of low-dose patch. At my level of nicotine addiction, the strong patch barely keeps me from lighting up, the "stage 2" has my wife ready to move out, the "stage 3" may as well be a band-aid so I light up again. My doctor says he had patients who use the strongest patch daily for years, in his opinion it's not good but is better for you than smoking. I fear that's as far as I will ever get, unless staying on The Patch long-term might adjust me to a normal level of addiction where I could step down gradually.

I have a lot more energy and feel awake all day now. When I was on coffee I wasn't remotely awake until I already had 2 cups and then I had to keep going to feel awake.
And the stupid thing is that I only started because I loved the caffeine "high" I'd get and I was on top of the world. But after awhile you never get that high again and you're only drinking it to feel normal. It's so dumb once you're hooked on it.
I get that it's the high for some people, but I honestly love the taste of coffee. Have since I was a kid, I'd always sneak my parent's until I was allowed to make my own.

I worked for Coca-Cola in 2014 this isn't new. The manager told me it took over two months to hire me because he had to justify in writing to HR why he wanted to hire a white male over a minority. All of the internal propaganda was basically "fuck white people". The blacks that worked there would show up 1-2 hours late and nothing could be done. I showed up 10 minutes late and would get a write up. The company is also head quartered in Ireland so they don't have to pay taxes, just like Apple.

That's what I was thinking when I read the comment above about being white and taking forever to get hired, and black employees showing up 1 hour late, etc. If black employees are so bad, Coke's efficiency and products will suffer and bring a real opportunity for competition from a smaller more efficient company with great hard working employees.

They're not actually committed to this stuff if they won't truly put their money where their mouth is. They made almost $9 billion in 2019 of net profit.
