I wouldn't discount the role of technology. People coming over in the 19th century really were leaving it all behind. There was no flying back to the homeland twice a year. There was no spending all day on the phone with Scotland, no watching German TV. You couldn't send a check to France every month.

From my experience, local culture is more indicative of the immigrant than their skin colour. For instance a black immigrant to Canada from Jamaica or Nigeria is much more likely in my experience to be productive and willing to adopt Canadian culture than an urban Detroit black American is... Even if America as a whole is culturally more similar to Canada than Nigeria or Jamaica.
I suppose that’s in line with the cool immigrants I know too, of which there are many because the Bay’s mostly immigrants. Nigerians are very based, as are most Africans, which is different than the voter farmed American blacks that have become the norm in places like Detroit. Filipino’s tend to be pretty based too, or their parents were, then their kids went to public schools and put more leftism there.

We're strictly capitalist, and full-heartedly acknowledge the good Western Civilization (particularly America) has done to the world. I wouldn't discount the role of technology. People coming over in the 19th century really were leaving it all behind. There was no flying back to the homeland twice a year. From my experience, local culture is more indicative of the immigrant than their skin colour. For instance a black immigrant to Canada from Jamaica or Nigeria is much more likely in my experience to be productive and willing to adopt Canadian culture than an urban Detroit black American is... Even if America as a whole is culturally more similar to Canada than Nigeria or Jamaica.
I suppose that’s in line with the cool immigrants I know too, of which there are many because the Bay’s mostly immigrants. Nigerians are very based, as are most Africans, which is different than the voter farmed American blacks that have become the norm in places like Detroit. The problem isn't skin color. The problem is values and beliefs. My family is immigrant, but we love the Constitution, we're Christian (we were before we came to America), and we genuinely believe America is the greatest nation. We're strictly capitalist, and full-heartedly acknowledge the good Western Civilization (particularly America) has done to the world. This doesn't mean we've thrown away our own culture or beliefs at all nor do we pretend America has a perfect history, but we have certainly adopted many American values.

The problem is: who's really to blame when a badly written law is exploitable? Is it who exploits it? Is it who approved it? Is it both?
Personally i believe it to be entirely the fault of whoever approved it. Cash for clunkers was a terrible law. But i don't blame anyone that took advantage of it.
