Christianity only lasted a short time before that moral space was retaken by Judaism via Saul/Paul. Much of the inherent weakness found in modern Christianity is a product of his work, and those who followed. In the 100 years after Jesus, much was twisted or deliberately inverted.

If you misunderstand Paul & St Augustine, then you miss the point of all of scripture. Ill agree with you that the church has been twisted out of shape but Augustine/Paul/Luther captured the core of Christ.
The whole love thy neighbor and the do unto others arguement has dominated the Christian narrative to the point that liberals use it as weapon.
I think that's partly to do with the church changing faces after the crusade and the inquisitions.
