There's not supposed to be a database, but there aren't supposed to be voting machines that flip votes either. The IRS isn't supposed to target people based on their political ideology. Etc etc.
There are no records (as of yet) of personal sales. Although I prefer to buy most of my guns new (so, unfortunately the transaction recorded locally), I've sold plenty of guns - and I can't remember ever selling one on a recorded transaction.
Yeah, you got that right. People Pede. What can we do? You want to put black duck tape over that before your post-Fren. Maybe even two pieces. That will help. No offense. Just sayin.
Or blur it. Or use tape or object. A dishonest gun shop employee could book it in, and then paper it out to a friend who reports it stolen (to claim insurance, or to get your gun). Now you are holding a stolen gun. Kind of like identity theft.
Why does showing the serial number matter?
Because it’s traceable to the feds that’s browse.
Oh, right. I mean uh... hey look, a bird!
Ok, the serial number on the shotgun sitting next to me is G666758, who am I?
Serial number on the 5.56 next to me is....
Wait, what the fuck? Who took a grinder to this thing and swapped out the barrel and firing assembly.
yeah, unless you have a Saiga with a 50 round drum, nobody gives a shit.
If it was a papered purchase, that record already exists. Especially if the OP has NFA items.
Mine serial number is 1. I’m pretty certain no one can trace it.
And?
Google apparently is scanning people’s images for serials numbers (so I have been told).
And there was no election fraud
I don't think you understand the trace process. But technically you are (assumed legally) correct. No database. Tracing is very much still possible.

Reverse trace. Mfg. to wholesaler to dealer to first sale. After that, it gets harder.
Backups of the NICS database. They have that info in perpetuity.
