I read about this at the Daily Mail yesterday.

If their trailer was cold enough that a child died of hypothermia while sleeping with his brother, that trailer was damn cold.

Some of the responsibility for his death rests with the parents IMO. May he rest in peace.

Sounds like neglect. How was the family not all huddled up together? The low there was in the teens.

edit/ Mom did not check on him until 2pm. Your power goes out during a crazy winter storm and you don't check on your sleeping eleven year old until 2pm?!

There’s always more to the story.

literallyhitler 24 points ago +24 / -0

Infuriating.

On the WaPo article someone gently asks about this fact (gets 3 upvotes) and the response w/ 34 upvotes is:

"Under normal conditions I would agree with you. But here we have a family living in a freezing cold mobile home for several days now, struggling along the way you might in a third-world country. No help in sight, just another freezing cold day, like the one before. So you assume your boy is snug and safe under all those blankets in his bad. And that feels like a relief to you.
SO you asked: what's WRONG with this picture? What's wrong is no heat, no water, no electricity, and no help coming anytime soon. IN AMERICA. That's whats wrong with this picture."

The other responses are equally retarded.

Americans are so stupid. What the fuck.

CaptRied 22 points ago +22 / -0

America was founded by people who did NOT rely on others to keep them warm, feed them, and provide them with water. PLANTS need this kind of care.

Hey, maybe they blame Biden....

1
SCP0073 1 point ago +1 / -0

I hear you. This country is going the way of the third world very quickly.

MastaJoda 18 points ago +18 / -0

Like the fact that the Dept of Energy refused to let Texas increase its wattage usage because of "Muh, climate change" policies that Biden put into effect. I'd say these people have a real shot at at least making waves with their attempt. It's kind of hard to keep your family warm when the U.S. government refuses to turn up the wattage. It's fucking ridiculous to say the least.

1
SCP0073 1 point ago +1 / -0

It’s ridiculous and people died as a result. Extra power for a week isn’t going to make “climate change bogeyman” happen an more or less quickly.

Yeah like $100 million

Bonami 9 points ago +9 / -0

Maybe the temperature dropped steeply during the night, maybe the heat went off during the night? Something happened to put that boy at risk, and sad as it may be to say, the parents should have been more alert.

10
literallyhitler 10 points ago +10 / -0

I edited my previous comment, but apparently Mom didn't check on him until 2pm Tuesday. Neglect.

13
Meme_Too 13 points ago +13 / -0

2 p.m.?????

What mother would not check a child who sleeps that long? Most children never sleep past 8 a.m. Something's not right here. If I were that mother, I'd keep my mouth shut for fear of CPS taking the other kids away.

10
literallyhitler 10 points ago +10 / -0

2:30, actually. And the boy slept w/ the 3 year old sibling (who is fine). ...Parents didn't even sleep with the three year old???

'Cristian was still responsive when his stepfather, Manuel Moreno, woke up in the middle of the night to check on him, his aunt Jaliza Yera told KTRK. "He made sure they were okay," Yera said. "They were still breathing. He covered them up, patted them and went back to sleep. " '

Supposedly step-dad checked on them in the middle of the night. They were 'still breathing'? Very weird thing to say.

Deplora 10 points ago +10 / -0

The perfectly fine 3 year old brother who was sleeping right next to him means something other than hypothermia was going on with the 11 year old. I have trouble believing that a confirmed primary cause of death has been established this fast. If something else went wrong (seizure, asthma attack, etc) the hypothermia may have been the result of losing consciousness, not the cause.

7
literallyhitler 7 points ago +7 / -0

No confirmed cause of death yet. Yes, a possible underlying health issue if nothing more sinister.

3
Meme_Too 3 points ago +3 / -0

Yes, it sounds strange. But maybe English is her 2nd language and it sounds different in Spanish.

5
ArtLife 5 points ago +5 / -0

May very well have meant "still sleeping". My dad recently passed away, and what happened was he went to bed and never woke up, but in the morning my mom thought he was just sleeping, because he was snoring, but he was unconscious, not sleeping. She couldn't rouse him and just thought maybe was tired. Eventually she called EMS. The stepfather may not have known he was near death. It is odd that much of the next day the kids were left alone. I do not understand that.

Bonami 4 points ago +4 / -0

That's what I feared, may he rest in peace

I fell asleep last sunday night with an open window and wearing thin pajama pants and no socks on. I woke up at 3:30am monday morning wondering why the hell I could not feel my toes or my legs. I was simply laying on the ground in my VR room watching youtube when I had fallen asleep.

So when I finally was able to get standing, I threw on some warm socks, alpaca lined slippers I got from Peru and I laid out 4 differing types of blankets/comforters on my bed and balled up underneath them all. Yes, it was cold as Pelosi's heart, but with a burning desire inside me to get warm, I was able to do the very basic things that a half competent human being would do and I layered the shit out of what I had.

When I finally woke up, knowing I had lost power already, I naturally checked the water and it was frozen. Fortunately, I had enough foresight to leave my faucets outside dripping and suffered no busted plumbing by doing so. But I still had no water. So during the rolling black out, when electricity was working, instead of bringing all my portable heaters inside, I found/knew where the plumbing entered the house. I placed my heaters against and towards the walls where the plumbing entered and while it took several hours to work, while many of my neighbors saw me outside checking if the water was running, they were surprised that I had running water. Let's just saw, the water pressure was higher than I had ever seen it before when I unfroze my pipes. It is now back to normal pressure, but having only gone for 30 or less hours without water wasn't the end of the world.

After I had the running water, along with my heaters furnace heating the house, I then was able to locate the portable heaters to keep my ass toasty. Being a thin blooded mammal, I am basically frozen feeling when it hits 60F or colder. I think most Texans would agree that below 60F is more than pants and jacket weather. It becomes long johns with jeans, double long sleeves and maybe a sweater with a jacket over that. And I am not exactly a light build man, I got some extra meat on my bones. With that in mind, I don't think the kid was properly cared for by its family. It almost feels as a horrible leftists excuse to try and get money for their own laziness and neglect of responsibility for their own fucking child.

May the little boy rest in peace, but fuck that little boy's parents.

invalid_data 2 points ago +2 / -0

Coming from somebody who just lived through it in Texas...I doubt it, so many people homes without power got ice cold. Don't expect those on the bottom end the economic scale to have generators and the clothes needed to combat the cold when it's -4 outside and you live in a trailer with poor insulation.

5
booblitchutz 5 points ago +5 / -0

This was my biggest concern. People living in trailers, which have zero insulation, were not given any warning and were trapped after the snow fall. They don’t have fireplaces to use for warmth, either. The fact that most of us lost power in the middle of the night created an extremely dangerous situation, as evidenced here.

KekVult 2 points ago +2 / -0

More like all blame for his death rests with the parents

2
ArriveViolently 2 points ago +2 / -0

ALL of the responsibility rests on the parents.

If you are dependent on the government to keep you from freezing to death, you are going to have a bad time. It is appalling how ill-prepared and dependent on government so many people are. I hope this event woke folks up.

No one from the gov is coming to save you.

2
CommonSenseForYou 2 points ago +2 / -0

Some of the responsibility for his death rests with the parents IMO.

My first assumption too. If the child is dead and you're not, then how much of his death was due to neglect?

17
Shaffro 17 points ago +17 / -0

The should sue Dementia Joe and the commies, as well. They are behind the sabotage.

9
Knight1_of_Sunset 9 points ago +9 / -0

Bingo. Instead of or addition to the companies, they also need to put pressure on the government too.

8
MastaJoda 8 points ago +8 / -0

This! The power companies were simply following the federal guidelines put in place by the POTATUS. The Dept. of Energy capped their wattage usage. So, to act like the U.S. government, under Xiden, didn't lead to this child's death is just plain retarded.

If Katrina was Bush's fault surely this is Biden's fault.

16
FredRedd 16 points ago +17 / -1

Heart-breaking. God bless him and his family.

Also, while everybody dies "when it's their time", if this was because the energy company really screwed the pooch on this one, then it's doubly heart-breaking as this would have been completely preventable.

14
NC_patriot 14 points ago +15 / -1

They should sue Biden's DoE, since it was them that wouldn't let Texas increase power.

7
MastaJoda 7 points ago +7 / -0

The dipshit that down dooted you is a fucking REEE-TARD!

14
DavidBowieRapedKids 14 points ago +14 / -0

I used to live in Alaska in the early 80s. We had these things called Chinooks that were basically bad windstorms. The power would go out and it'd get cold as fuck.

Get your fucking family into the same room for body heat and bring in every single thing you can to keep warm.

Zero reason for this.

The parents fucked up.

This is utter rubbish and does NOT add up. Selective hypothermia? If it was going to kill an 11 yo it would definitely also kill the 3yo. Not checking a sleeping 11 yo until 2pm? Why not?

People survive getting trapped on fucking Mount Everest in major storms in tents ffs.

Being stupid doesn't absolve parents of responsibility - it just makes them stupid. Now followed by greed and trying to profit off the death of their child. This is their first response? A lawsuit?

Ain't gonna fly, kids in a better place now. Should bundle up with your kids, layers and layers of clothes.

The whole family plus any pets should have been all together for warmth. Plus, if he had some other issue that affected his health, maybe it would have been noticed sooner.

3
AlphaOmaga 3 points ago +3 / -0

Sue the EPA/DOE. They are the ones under Biden that restricted coal/fossil power production. Texas was ready to meet demand and the Biden administration shut that down with restrictions.

But hey! They stayed under emissions goals! Thanks fed fucks!

Either way, bad parenting so it’s going to be tough. But at least sue the right direction.

1
blueeyephoto 1 point ago +1 / -0

DOE also denied Texas request to boost output for "environmental reasons".

3
Theyreallinonit 3 points ago +3 / -0

They want this, the deepstate want to destroy your infrastructure and for you to lose all the money because of lawsuits like this. Multi pronged attack.

3
Rockhad10 3 points ago +3 / -0

Bad parenting, child neglect.

2
Staatssicherheit 2 points ago +2 / -0

Power grid operator Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) and electric provider Entergy failed to warn residents of the conditions and offered incomplete guidance to customers during the storm, the family alleged.

This is a retarded lawsuit. I hope they throw it out and make these scheming vultures pay defendant's attorney fees.

1
SuperSilly 1 point ago +1 / -0

This smells. I lived through the great winter storm in Texas. I have no super powers, my outside compressor did freeze but, we have emergency heat and a fireplace. Naw, they should have all hunkered down together. I feel like this child was murdered or allowed to die and they are trying to cover it up... I could be wrong? who knows?

1
dagoat4l 1 point ago +1 / -0

I live in another state that just had a winter storm. We had a backup plan of we lost power. Thats being an adult. No guarantee you will keep power.

There must be more to that story. If my house had been so cold, I would have been burning books, furniture to keep the kids warm. Or keep everyone together in one bed.
