I agree, but the idea of good-faith political compromises then may have seemed realistic. I would surely accept a JFK democrat these days. I suspect he got suckered. We’ve been witness to how the Ryan/McConnell GOP tried suckering Trump on the Wall, that omnibus spending bill.

I would say that JFK was not a democrat, he was a DINO. He went against the party establishment (DS) and was murdered for it.

Democrats in Reagan’s day were still a class party whose main constituents was the unions. One thing Cesar Chavez was striking against was illegal immigrant ag workers. The NYT was running articles in the 90s how illegal immigration hurt low income wages.
