Use youtube-dl to download videos to local storage before they get memory-holed. For you poor souls that are using Windows, no worries. The binary has the python interpreter built in. Can be used on a plethora of video websites besides youtube.

Seriously. Get youtube-dl.

Seconded

btw, you can keep it up to date with python pip

$ sudo -H pip install --upgrade youtube-dl

Forgot about pip, but I have youtube-dl installed via distro pkg manager.

$ youtube-dl -U

works pretty well and looking at the repo on github, it even has chunk to make it work on Windows... for those unfortunate souls.

Yes, it's important to update youtube-dl (usually when it fails to download a video) because a site may change underlying implementation in a way purposely or non-purposely that youtube-dl won't be able to download the video.

On Android use the app Newpipe. Not available in the play store

I'm not much into smartphones, mine sucks and is slow.

I see that Newpipe (YT very slimmed down front end without using official APIs) is in the F-Droid 'store' or app repo and screenshots indicate it allows downloading from YT. I often forget that a lot of people experience P.W or a lot of content exclusively via their smartphone (a legitimate bias! oooh, leftists, beware!) so, thank you!
