I might be a bit sensitive to that but it's a serious problem both in professional life and on the internet where false standards are applied from specific disciplines that aren't relevant in casual conversation.
In academia there's this cargo cult notion that you must always cite sources for anything you say to have any legitimacy which is false. It's not the request for sources that's inappropriate but the classification based on whether or not there are sources.
This was also a tactic used by brigades on reddit to dismiss comments and attempt to cancel anything they disagreed with trying to impose false standards such as those in academia or the media.
It's also a fairly common form of abuse in left wing circles. If you state something that's a matter of fact then they'll say that's just an idea or theory or opinion when they don't know that.
That's how these people operate. I don't tolerate them any longer. It's the same thing really as these fact checkers except they're not. A lot of people pick up the bad habit playing the game and it became par the course on reddit.
Bullshit like that you see every day or every other comment in reddit or when talking to lefties offline I almost never see on here. I have antibodies I guess. I'm not going to encourage that sort of shitbaggery and dirty tricks to either win an argument or destroy a discussion as how people should generally conduct themselves.
People need to stop and think. In real life people don't scream cite sources. When I'm reading an ancient Greek text on something such as logic or mathematics I'm not throwing it in the bin because it doesn't cite sources.
Funnily enough it's also an Islamic tradition for their means of authenticating Haddiths. You have to cite sources going all the way back to Muhammad (A told B told C told D) or something like that.
He didn't ask for a source. He made an assertion disguised as a question. It's the same trick interviewers pull in fake news.
It's often missed because it's subtle but it's the same concept as have you stopped beating your wife?
To translate he said "That's just a theory." in an attempt to downgrade it. Either it's an infiltrator or someone that picked up very bad habits from other places.
My sources tell me agencies will try to exploit a dip in the traffic to take over.

Asking for a source in this forum is necessary and the correct approach. I will continue to respectfully ask for the source for claims I find suspect.
