@scumcunt - yes but it says "only as needed" and I heard from people in the gas/coal industry that the problem is this was still forcing various limits in energy production.

So by the time they went to fire up additional coal-fired plants, it was too late because it was too cold for them to start/run and keep up.

In other words, when a life or death situation is approaching with very cold weather, you say the hell with environmental standards and fire every plant up as soon as possible just to be safe.

If this is really what happened, then those deaths are on all the greenies who want to protect the environment over the USA while China destroys it with their over pollution

Greenies, they don't just want to protect the environment, they want to save the planet. With such grand delusions, they don't give a damn if a plethora of people lose their livelihoods and say something retarded like "learn how to code".

You think they're going to fret over some deaths?

Tell you what, if people like Bill Gates and others wanted to do real philantrophy, they'd form together and jointly build 4th gen nuclear plants, something on the face of it is risky because of ROI is high, super-regulated industry, and you have Big Oil which sounds like people in the affected areas of this storm are being royally screwed over (sounds like opportunistic price fixing). However, these people have no balls and besides, no pizza or hotdogs come from investing in a nuclear plant for everyone to have cheap energy.
